October is LGBTQ+ History Month

October is LGBTQ+ History Month, a month dedicated to honoring the LGBTQ+ community. While many are familiar with Pride Month in June, which celebrates identity and visibility, this month focuses on honoring the trailblazers who have paved the way for progress and equality.

LGBTQ+ History Month was first founded in 1994 by Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson. Wilson wanted to create a month-long observance to honor the achievements and history of LGBTQ+ individuals throughout time.

October was chosen to coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11 and to recognize the anniversaries of historical events like the first and second marches on Washington for LGBTQ+ rights, which took place in October.

At Old National Bank, we believe in creating a culture where diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of what we do - not just during Pride Month, but every day of the year. LGBTQ+ History Month is another chance for us to honor and celebrate the powerful history and impact of the LGBTQ+ community.

Leading the charge is our Pride Impact Network, a group of passionate team members dedicated to promoting awareness and inclusion. This month we are ensuring that LGBTQ+ History Month is a time of education, reflection, and inspiration for all.

Together, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and work toward a future where everyone can bring their authentic selves to the table, both within our organization and in the communities we serve.
